Updated Canon has announced the EF 35mm F1.4L II USM, the second generation of its popular wide-angle prime. It uses newly designed Blue Spectrum Refractive Optics, which claim to reduce chromatic aberration better than any other existing technology.
Canon's most-similar lens aperture-wise is the slightly longer focal length Canon EF 35mm f/1.4 L USM Lens. This is a much more expensive option, but the Canon 35 L is a sharper lens (especially in the corners as can be expected as it is a full-frame lens). It is also larger, more flare prone, and it focuses closer.The new Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM lens is compatible with 72mm filters and will be supplied with Lens Hood EW-77B and Lens Pouch LP1219. It is scheduled to be available in October 2015, for an estimated retail price of $1,799.00.
